TWL: Safety at Sea Seminar Report
Sat, Oct 21, 2000 6:41 AM
A member told his story about his boat rapidly sinking off Protection Island and being rescued after 26 minutes in the water. Two people with one PFD were all that got off the boat. Since I first heard that story we now keep PFDs accessible in a deck box on the boat.

Re: T&T: Gasoline on the Mississippi River

Bob, There is an additional option that I should have mentioned, and that is to stop at the down dock in Paducah (mile 935.0 on the Ohio) and top off with gas that is either brought to you in cans or that you go and pick up. Officially, overnight docking is not permitted but cruisers do so every year.

I'm a bit too ham-fisted to go prodding around in mine, so I've left it closed after an initial urge to see the top of the board.

RE: TWL: windlass problem

This system makes it a no brainer...run the engine at a fast idle to get the voltage up or no windlass :-) Easy on the gear and easy on the mechanics :-) Cheers Dave Swan Song Roughwater 58 Tortola, BVI

SO it's not quite as easy as it once was for folks cruising outside the US to get a mail drop and/or address! I don't think that the folks that asked for help will find it easy to do so either. Dave & Nancy Swan Song Roughwater 58
