Interesting dialog on Nobletec. Does Nobletec Admiral Max Pro work with less "bugs" using Microsoft XP Professional, Vs Vista?

FYI .... Been using MacENC on a 13" Apple Mac book pro and a USP GPS. MacENC is loaded with free Govt Vector and Raster charts. Easy to toggle between the two where ever you are. Program is around $150.00 and USP GPS is about $50.00.

For $200.00 (if you have the Apple computer) is really a very cheap back up. Apple has a DVi output, so if you have a screen with DVI input, you can even repeat to another screen. Program is easy to work with and a "side by side" view with Nobeltec and Furuno Charts and plotters, see no difference at all.

With CE you can combine the two. In addition, CE incorporates aerial
photography which you can preload for your route and overlay on the free
charts. You control the translucence of the photography. This really helps,
especially if a point appears on the chart, but is revealed to have eroded
away in the photo. This tells you not to steer for the visible land. This
becomes valuable in places like the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake as an
example. This information is also helpful in interpreting radar images.
Can't get a return if the land is no longer there.

Nobeltec works with some and not other Visita versions but no 64 bit.  Works
best with XP 32 bit. I currently use XP pro. The buggy problems really
surface when integrating other devices through multplexers because Nobeltec
does not support nmea 2000.  Currently my WX Weather and AIS will crash the
program (even after paying the unlock and using the nobeltec AIS receiver).
I own 8 regions ($$$$$) but to load the recent 4 took two weeks and 5 sets
of folio disks.  Finally had to load individual files from the diskettes
onto the desk top and an individual file sent to me by their tier 3 software
eng.  before success.  The program is all patches and looks like a quilt.  I
think it needs a total redo as was released early without thorough testing
by beta boaters.  I also find the ETA calculator quite accurate along the
east coast when close to tide/current stations.  The auto route maker
crashes the computer if tried on an icw twisty distance.  Caveat,  I am not
very computer savvy so do not try to sort through device conflicts etc
without tech direction.  The tech guys have been great...that said their
available hours have been cut by more then half.

I don't think that tide wristwatches are offered for the West Coast. We here
in the East are obviously more predictable.
