TWL: Albin fuel dip tubes
Thu, Jan 10, 2002 4:14 AM
The engine would start and then die immediately. I knew I was down to about 50 gallons in both tanks but intended to refill after my CG Aux Safety Patrol. We limped back to the marina on one engine and checked out the engine. I was sucking air ! My fuel dip tube ended at the 50 gallon level on the port tank.

Reseating stanchion bases: Advice requested

I understand the glassed over problem--one solution is to back out the bolt, then get a Dremel tool, or die grinder with a flexiable shaft and cut/grind off the fiberglass. Probably there was a layer of matt put over the hull to deck joint. Lacking that, you can thicken epoxy with cabasol (silica) to a consistancy which will not run thru the bottom.

Just remember the adage: 'Old > sailors > never die, they just move on to trawlers that go the same slow speed... > but > are more comfortable'...or something like that. Age? Not that it matters, > but > coming on 77 next month. I have also been up/down the east coast ICW > several > times. What's your point?

Under the wide and starry sky Dig the grave and let me lie: Glad did I live and gladly die, And I laid me down with a will. This be the verse you grave for me: Here he lies where he longd to be; Home is the sailor, home from the sea, And the hunter home from the hill.

With a hacksaw and appropriately sized threading die, you can easily make replacement rods with brass rod purchased locally. Stainless steel rod can also be used. I've done both without any long term detrimental effects. I believe that the tie rod in your unit is 1/4 inch.

2nd bilge pump
Sat, Aug 5, 2017 12:53 PM
This is partly caused by a check valve in the line which I use to prevent pump cycling (until the batteries die) (yes I agree they can not be used in lieu of a discharge loop). To remedy the air lock I drilled a very small hole (1/8") in the output flange not covered by the hose. I'm happy with this set up.
