Re: TWL: Cape Dory 28 - Speed
Mon, Mar 8, 2004 12:49 AM
Anyway, with 200hp, I would say 14kt cruise with about a 17kt top speed. Enjoy. Those are awfully pretty little boats. > >Trawler on, >John > JE John is exactly on. Ours had a Chrysler gas (275 HP) and it topped out at 18 if lightly loaded. The boat felt very good at 13 - 14 K, but the audible gurgle of gasoline was disconcerting.

Has anyone added Bristol over the top, and how did it work out? Also, will Bristol come off with traditional methods when it's lifespan is up? Bristol, at least the Bristol Amber, can be applied on top of traditional spar varnish IF the varnish is in good condition. This is called out in the instruction sheet. I've done it and it works just fine.

Sealine Marina Miami

We re-fueled, bought two gallons of oil, and topped off our water yesterday at Sealine Marina. The fuel was $2.19 plus tax less a 5% Boat US discount. They charged us $5 to top off our water and they charged us $37 for two gallons of Rotella 30 wt.

catalytic diesel stove

The ceramic top is very easy to clean--much like the electric ceramics. The stove also doubles as a diesel cabin heater in a small boat. There is a forced external draft, there is a circulating fan which pushes the hot air off the burners when the top in closed, making the unit a heater. I don't think it would be practical in heating a large boat.

Last year after the hurricanes came around I had new zippers installed in the flybridge enclosure and a new bimini top made. I have spent a reasonable amount of money but I am dissatisfied with the results.

An instance comes to mind, Lagoon Cove, were everyone was going to the top of the hill to make a call, we were getting and receiving calls in our boat. This is a small antenna that plugs into the back of the phone. It works even sitting inside the boat. Has a magnetic base which I put on the top of a small metal box.

T&T CPES and Topcoat Adhesion

>Brian wrote: So it would appear to me that one or more coats of CPES left on just long enough for the solvents to evaporate followed by the first of the top coats will promote better adhesion. You are correct.

Racor 500 filters

All I get with a filter is the larger "o" ring a couple of inches in diameter and the small "o" ring that is used on top of the housing on the handle. Greg Ocean Alex. HHI, SC

Fwd: 3160 Cat Diesels and Repowering 20 Ton Boat

Should one expect 10,000 to 15,000 hours bfore rebuild if looked after. 800 houor routine would probably be a top end overhaul. During survey have a leak down test and compression test done. Opinions?
