I have freshly done traditional varnish on all right now. Has anyone
added Bristol over the top, and how did it work out? Also, will Bristol
come off with traditional methods when it's lifespan is up?
Bristol, at least the Bristol Amber, can be applied on top of
traditional spar varnish IF the varnish is in good condition. This is
called out in the instruction sheet. I've done it and it works just
fine. As to removing Bristol, the only way we've removed it so far is
by sanding it down or using a scraper to remove finish that was lifted
by moisture intrusion. This works great, just like varnish, but I don't
know how Bristol will react to chemical or heat gun removal because we
haven't had occasion to do this.
