Re: TWL: Pilothouse? Displacement?

It'll do 10kts top and cruise at 8kts. The twins aren't necessary but will come in handy occasionally when docking and always at resale. The GB42 is a very popular boat and will be easy to sell at the end of your trip. They retain their value extremely well. Then you can go for the ocean crosser. RE:TWL: Phillip Rhodes Project Update--Cover-up Complete. Pics!

A place called Big Top in Perry, Fl makes them. Unlike Danny, I had to get the State of Florida to issue a permit to cover tidal waters before construction could start.

TWL: Glassing teak decks
Thu, Jun 26, 2003 9:03 PM
The substrate may be molded fiberglass with a cored deck (balsa or closed cell foam)--or plywood (in some cases squares of what I refer to as "mystery wood" which is covered with a single layer of glass--or even no glass at all!

He was required to satisfy all recommendations by the insurance company. The surveyors reasoning, spoken to the owner, not written, was exactly what WM states in their catalog. That it is too easy for an inexperienced person, or a short handed crew, to disable the engine, thus complicating an already bad situation.

Re: T&T: Polarized sunglasses

So it's an easy and now automatic thing for me to look up over the top of the sunglasses at the radar/plotter screen. Our other, older CRT Echotec plotter is mounted on the electronics console in front of the helm and off to one side, so it's a bit lower than the helmsman's head.

An easy mod to do on most boats. Reply: I have a different view of where to place the pump relative to the tank. If the pump is above the tank you are asking it to suck the contents of the tank all of the time even at start-up. Most pumps do better at pushing than pulling. Also, you are asking for a dry start-up every time.

Ethanol has less energy than gasoline, so we get poorer mileage on top of all of the other problems. Capt. Jeff on Adirondack On Thu, Feb 28, 2013 at 11:30 AM, Paul W.

Help me find a trawler

I also need easy access to the engine room because my knees are going. In my Willards ( I have a 40 and a 30) I installed a very large hinged hatch that lifts to let me climb down right on top of the engine, No worming though a 2'x2' hatch. I just can't do that any more. Today we looked at a Cheoy Lee 35 sedan.

Re: [time-nuts] Basic question regarding comparing two frequencies

Especially if you want commonality across your whole line, where the higher end instruments have fairly sophisticated add-on software (all those slick applications that analyze signals, set things up), choosing some sort of popular OS platform makes sense. MS makes it pretty easy to do the development..

Re: [time-nuts] 57600 baud rate with Basic etc
Wed, Oct 10, 2012 4:10 PM
Basic serial has its merits, but it's regrettable that RS-232 came out on top. RS-422 (or full-duplex RS-485, not much difference) would have been a much better choice. Differential so it has good noise resistance, and it doesn't use weird voltages (-12V? come on...) It all looks the same from the software side though.
