Re: marine trader-lehman engine
Mon, Aug 2, 1999 11:15 PM
I often put a "T" on the top of the through hull, so I can "Rod" the thru hull by removing the cap in the top of the "T", the engine intake goes off the right angle.

Some welders will fill or half fill the tank with water - after cleaning - to work only on the top of the tank - such as to weld in a new fill or vent pipe ... I suppose it depends on how much risk you and your welder are willing to accept -- I'm with the top lot ..

TWL: Re: Macerator Pump Location

Each head connection (unfortunately have to pump uphill to tank so the input lines can drain downhill) is on a 'T' connection, with a full dia valve on the down side of the top of the 'T' to facilitate cleanout with a wire pipe brush when it becomes necessary.

Re: TWL: Flybridge hardtop

The layup consisted of one layer of 18 oz biax w mat over the entire top, with two layers over the center 5' (top & bottom). The second hardtop used a plastic honeycomb called Nidacore, 1.5" thick with a similar layup. The Nidacore is cheaper and stronger, but you have some additional finish work to do on the edges.

The top seals well for buggy-lugging and motoring but I would want to secure the top better for a boat ride. Al Johnson 34' Marine Trader "Angelina" Very north of the Mason-Dixon

The only way to deploy the anchor after > this happens is to open the chain locker and pull the chain out by hand > until the top of the chain is free.

Re: TWL: Fuel Return Line
Tue, Jan 6, 2004 12:59 AM
The top of the tank was about a foot higher than the top of the engine. Since both fuel pick ups went down to the bottom of the tank, when the tank was full there was pressure on the diesel return line back towards the engine.

TWL: Replacement antennas or mounts
Sun, Jan 18, 2004 3:51 PM
Next problem: I have an antenna mounted on top of my pilot house that had one of the early Zamak (pot metal) antenna mounts with handle and teeth so angle could be set as required. The antenna itself was fastened directly to the top part of this mount. It recently broke off at the bottom of the antenna, the metal broke not the fiberglass antenna.

Fill a flip top container with it to make filling the reservoir a lot easier I suggest that you not use a funnel. I keep such a container full of transmission fluid on brd at all times. Upon reinstallation pour in the new Transmission fluid while turning the wheel constantly allowing the air to bubble out.
