I'd rather use a steel outboard motor tank (personal preference) but I'm just
mad I didn't think of this myself. This is a pretty good idea. I'd store it
outside with the dinghy motor's fuel or strapped down in the engine room.
These tanks usually have some type of hold down straps and chocks available
for purchase. Paint the tank yellow and stencil "Diesel" on the sides.

Also, what kind of container do you use to collect (and store, if necessary
until you get to an oil disposal site) your old oil when you change the oil
with a built-in oil-changing pump? <<
I use an old plastic 5 gallon pail with sealing top. It was the container
that 300 foot of 3/4" nylon line came coiled in. The little dip-stick pump
dumps right into this. I've used it for 9 years. I really only need it to
carry used oil from the boat to the marina's recycling dump. The top seals
well for buggy-lugging and motoring but I would want to secure the top better
for a boat ride.
