Getting ashore and on top of a hill will often improve reception. You'll find that your signal changes even as you swing on the hook!

While at least two juvs hunted out in the open, one adult was stationed at the top of a dead tree in the park's wooded eastern slopes. The juvs were out on a recently mowed lawn.

Pelican
Mon, Nov 14, 2011 10:28 PM
While I have not personally seen the Pelican, I have been reading all the recent reports and I subscribe to the view that there is probably one bird that has moved down the sound from an instinctive need to go South. From the Rye area it is in a bottle neck with only a narrow waterway, the East River, to continue its journey.

Re: Carbon Monoxide Detector & fuels

Diesel, Gas and Propane can all give lethal amounts of Carbon Monoxide. The toxicity can be insidious and you can die in your sleep! Several years ago there were a series of deaths due to flow through hot propane water heaters in boats. Galley stoves can give lethal levels, so can refrigerator which are not properly vented.

Re: TWL: Speed seals for raw water cooling pumps

All it will take is some threaded brass rod, 12 brass wing nuts, epoxy or brazing, a hacksaw and a file. (I have a tap & die set if I have to thread the rod.) My Jabsco faceplates have 6 screws, not 4 as shown on the small pumps in the illustration. So, the clever idea of slots rather than holes wouldn't work.

The next time you are wrestling with all this, think about the future! In the meantime, just give me a Sat Phone and beam me up. Regards, Capt. Mike Maurice Near Portland Oregon.
