TWL: TWL Easy way to Sea of Cortez
Wed, Dec 6, 2000 3:47 AM
e trip for cruisers who plan to spend time in Central or Northern areas of the Sea of Cortez. It is my understanding that Mr. Grossman has purchased land on the Bay of Los Angeles on the Baha side of the Sea of Cortez, and also on the Pacific side near Guerrero Negro, likely near the Salt loading facility or the Fish Camp in Scammon's Lagoon area. The plan as I understand it, is to make a docking and launching area on both sides of the peninsula. The Mexican authorities have agreed to improve the road (48 miles more or less) between these areas. This road has no bridges overhead or, as far as I know, no overhead wires. In San Carlos Mr. Grossman has constructed a semi type trailer that can lift a boat out of the water with a number of padded hydraulic arms. I have watched this operation at the marina. The trailer lifted a 60 ton 65' sail boat out with ease and pulled by a tractor, moved it with masts up to the dry storage area about a half mile away. This trailer can be put behind a semi truck tractor and pulled down the highway. The idea here is to save about a thousand miles of sea travel by moving your boat 50 miles across the land without even removing the mast or fly bridge. I would assume that any vessel with a beam up to about 18' could be moved the 48 or so miles in a very short time. I am bringing my boat from Oceanside, CA to San Carlos in a few weeks, and ask if this could be done now. I was told it was not yet in operation, but might be by June 2001. Great idea, I say. Especially going North. I have spent many hours beating North up the Pacific Coast. I have given up sailing for trawlering, but still nothing goes to windward better that wheels or wings. Regular disclaimers here - I have no link to this, and just found out about it today from a person who works for the Marina in San Carlos. Norm Clark Soon to be heading South on Nova 40 Europa

TWL: Cleaning of Walbro Pump is easy and possible
Thu, Feb 1, 2001 7:19 PM
e triangular plate on. Pry open the base plate with a flat blade screw driver The screen filter will fall out into your hand. Clean out the base chamber. The screen can be gently cleaned or replaced for about $2.50 (Yes Walbro sells a replacement screen for this "unserviceable" filter.) Carefully reassemble. Make sure no grit is caught in the o-ring. Check for leaks. Time: about ten minutes. Money saved: $150 Let me know if you need help. I'll e-mail you pictures and directions on how to do it. Thank you, Charles Bell cbell@fuelpolishing.com -----Original Message----- From: owner-trawler-world-list@samurai.com [mailto:owner-trawler-world-list@samurai.com]On Behalf Of fjflinn Sent: Thursday, February 01, 2001 1:15 PM To: trawler Subject: Re: TWL: Re: Bumble Bees Can't Fly (about fuel pumps) The walbro pump I put in my system came with a warning that if the internal filters on the pump became clogged, the pump would become useless and would have to be replaced. The only logical way to set up the pump is to put it after the filter. It seems to work very well in this position. fred flinn

ded from a position on an open athwartships structure which "bridged" the vessel from side to side to provide a platform from which to view the vessel. Those structures were later enclosed and otherwise evolved so that they may no longer resemble a bridge but the name stuck. ----- Original Message ----- From: peg.hall@sbcglobal.net Only a raised afterdeck is properly called a poop deck. It has nothing to do with waste, but got its name because being swamped by from waves coming over the stern is a condition known as being "pooped." Now, class...who knows why a ship's command center is called the bridge? Peggie

e vessel and "bridged" the upper rowing deck, it became known as the "bridge". How's that for a completely off the cuff answer? Bob Davies --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
