TWL: TWL Easy way to Sea of Cortez

Let me start by saying this is information I received today second hand,
but it does make sense.

Mr. Eddy Grossman, who is well known in San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico, on
the Sea of Cortez, as the founder of the regular marina, the owner of
the dry storage marina and other business enterprises in San Carlos, has
launched a new enterprise which may shorten the trip for cruisers who
plan to spend time in Central or Northern areas of the Sea of Cortez.
It is my understanding that Mr. Grossman has purchased land on the Bay
of Los Angeles on the Baha side of the Sea of Cortez, and also on the
Pacific side near Guerrero Negro, likely near the Salt loading facility
or the Fish Camp in Scammon's Lagoon area.  The plan as I understand it,
is to make a docking and launching area on both sides of the peninsula.
The Mexican authorities have agreed to improve the road (48 miles more
or less) between these areas.  This road has no bridges overhead or, as
far as I know, no overhead wires.  In San Carlos Mr. Grossman has
constructed a semi type trailer that can lift a boat out of the water
with a number of padded hydraulic arms.  I have watched this operation
at the marina. The trailer  lifted  a 60 ton 65' sail boat out with ease
and pulled by a tractor, moved it with masts up to the dry storage area
about a half mile away.  This trailer can be put behind a semi truck
tractor and pulled down the highway.  The idea here is to save about a
thousand miles of sea travel by moving your boat 50 miles across the
land without even removing the mast or fly bridge.  I would assume that
any vessel with a beam up to about 18' could be moved the 48 or so miles
in a very short time.

I am bringing my boat from Oceanside, CA to San Carlos in a few weeks,
and ask if this could be done now.  I was told it was not yet in
operation, but might be by June 2001.

Great idea, I say. Especially going North. I have spent many hours
beating North up the Pacific Coast.  I have given up sailing for
trawlering, but still nothing goes to windward better that wheels or
wings.

Regular disclaimers here - I have no link to this, and just found out
about it today from a person who works for the Marina in San Carlos.
