Thats a gliding scale... if system A breaks at DUT1 of 1.0seconds B & C might die at 5 and 10 seconds, giving plenty of time to patch the systems. System A does seem to live on the edge already, maybe a good candidate to patch earlier...

Another approach is to ignore the problem and just replace the units if/when they die. That could be a disaster for long term customer relations, but might be appropriate for a home lab setup. -- These are my opinions, not necessarily my employer's. I hate spam.

Re: [time-nuts] No more 60Hz! TEC Elimination

The alternate (AC) path down through the middle of California is a apparently a bear to keep stable, and transients can take tens of hours to die out. After all, that transmission line is starting to be a significant fraction of a wavelength at 60 Hz. (lambda in free space is 5000km.. prop velocity on a power line is quite a bit slower)

I remember a couple years ago we had a transformer die (thankfully it was a passive failure and not a massive fireball on the pole). People were wondering why their machines weren't working (but the lights were on)... Sure enough hooking up a meter and the high leg was dead... I did read somewhere that this change might have an effect on demand meters?

Re: [time-nuts] OT - but of interest?

Things that tend to die are FETs that are switching power.. they don't have much voltage margin on the gates and dumping a bunch of charge from a single event might push it over the threshold and you get a gate rupture (SEGR). SEU and related SEFI are probably pretty unlikely.
