Re: [CT Birds] Question on Finch Eye Disease?
Sat, Dec 29, 2007 9:12 PM
The birds are quite sick and will eventually not be able to see to find food and water and will die. It is highly contagious to other birds. However, this disease is easily treated and since most birds can be caught every attempt should be made to do so.

Unfortunately I think we are looking at a case of where the bird will weaken and either it will die, or a responsible "rehabber" will get involved and arrange for it either to go to the Bronx Zoo, where they have Gannet wash-ups from the South Shore of LI, or relay it down to at least the Chesapeake. I did not relocate the bird when I returned to the spot at 1130, but vocalizations were beginning to die down at mid-day. Other notable birds included Olive-sided, Willow, and Yellow-bellied Flycatchers, and Mourning, Canada, and Wilson's Warblers. Directions: The University Ave.

My guess is that it will likely die but that, now, we will not find it. Bob Curry

The toxicity can be insidious and you can die in your sleep! Several years ago there were a series of deaths due to flow through hot propane water heaters in boats. Galley stoves can give lethal levels, so can refrigerator which are not properly vented.

Re: TWL: Mysterious Engine Problem .... any thoughts?
Sun, Feb 6, 2000 4:13 AM
I've also experienced a very small air leak in the 'suck' side of the feed pump that would slowly build up enough trapped air to eventually pass a bubble to the injector pump, and the engine would just wind down and die (slowly). This doesn't exactly fit your description though...

Re: TWL: Speed seals for raw water cooling pumps

(I have a tap & die set if I have to thread the rod.) My Jabsco faceplates have 6 screws, not 4 as shown on the small pumps in the illustration. So, the clever idea of slots rather than holes wouldn't work.
