Re: TWL: Thanks to all of you!

Up here in Lake Ontario are a number of marinas who would lovingly store your tug - in or out of water. And they would guarantee a solid sheet of ice all around it. I know this because I live on the lake in my boat all year round and really enjoy getting up several times a night to break the ice around my boat. Truly very invigorating - can we count on you for next winter????? George G.

I think it's similar to a product some people up here have used under the name "Nu-Glass". It goes on, feels and smells like liquid floorwax we use in the kitchen. (Wonder if it isn't the same). After 5 to 6 coats, boats look really good and shine lasts for one season - then it begins to look flaky (at least here on Lake Ontario-possibly affected by Canadian freezing cold weather). For now, I'll stay with Turtle Wax. George G.

Wasn't the original question: "I can't smell the diesel odour but my wife can"? Isn't the answer obvious? I'll probably die over that remark, eh? Seriously though, there seems to be a different perception toward odours depending on whether you're male or female. When I was teaching at college and living on an old wooden boat with plenty of diesel and other odours, I would observe my female students backing off at least three feet when I walked into the room whereas male students didn't seem to mind. One more thought: Someone on one of these lists mentioned an enzyme spray product that effectively removes many odours. I use that for cat and pet odours (like when a pet accidentially pees on the carpet). The product I use is called FEBREZE. I wonder if that would help?

It was installed close to the main shaft and by throwing a belt on a pulley via an idler, you could use it as a get -home engine, if your main ever failed. Little slow, but they tested it and it worked. Good idea.

Before I'd go any deeper, I would spray WD40 into and onto the hub of the wheel - repeatedly - while turning. That has freed many a tight and squeaking wheel for me. TWL: Trawler -Troller
Sun, Jul 16, 2000 4:12 PM
In your latest post re hullspeed, you use the term Troller frequently. Far as you know, is Troller synonymous to Trawler? I an a wee bit confused and Webster's and other dictionaries were of no help other than telling me that a 'Troll" is a mythical creature that lives in mountains and under bridges and occasionally causes mischief to travelers unless placated with gifts ;-) Other than that, I really like your article on hullspeed. Would like to ask your permission to use all or some of it in a future newsletter for our yacht club. George of Scaramouche on Lake Ontario, Canada
