Re: TWL: Re: RE: Painting exterior teak

I have used both Armada and Cetol on exterior teak on a number of boats (used to operate a sailboat rental business) and am quite pleased with the results and the ease of maintenance. I do not own stock in Armada or Cetol (but wished I would).... George of Scaramouche on Lake Ontario, Canada

George Geist writes: Since I'm still a windpowered trawler, speed is not that much of a problem and I find that an hour's sailing in a light breeze (3 knots) gets my stuff nice and clean. I use sturdy net-bags (European shopping bags) and no soap. I always drag a 100 ft floating safety line behind me when alone and that's where I tie my laundry to.

Re: T&T: Helm Station Vacumn Gauge

I put in a complete duplicate instrument panel in the engine room using Murphy gauges and the total cost was under $500. This also means that when I get a funny reading from the electric gauges I have a mechanical backup. See http://www.fwmurphy.com/products/pressure_vacuum/20v_25v_a20v_a25v.htm for details.

Re: T&T: New Holding Tank Install
Wed, Feb 13, 2008 6:27 PM
For what it's worth, I have two holding tanks on Island Eagle, one with a Sealand and one with a macerator. The Sealand has been flawless in 5 years. The macerator has failed once and clogged once. Plus, I have to manually open and close the through hull when I use the macerator. Next time it fails I will be replacing it with a Sealand.
