TWL: Re Rants About Impressions versus Tests - Possible Solution
Mon, Jan 6, 2003 6:23 AM
For myself, being a relative newcomer to the trawler scene, I would rate reliability, accessibility, and repairability at the top of my "want to know" list concerning a boat, new or used.

Re: TWL: replacing zincs

Magnesium is used to protect aluminum or aluminum/zinc alloys (die cast, white metal). Magnesium anodes could be used in fresh water but cost more and disolve faster than zinc for about the same protection for metals found on most trawlers. Magnesium anodes disappear very fast in salt water.

By the way if you can fit a big enough compressor, you can save lots of room and hassle by using air powered tools-cut off saws, die grinders, 4" grinders, drills, right angle drills and others . Doesn't need to be recharged and the "cable" is cheap.
