Waterproofing Bimini Top
Wed, May 26, 2004 1:33 AM
I would prefer to leave it in the deployed state if possible but it would be difficult to reach all top areas, 12x14, with a brush or roller and over spray will be a problem. Is there anything that has been applied from the inside that worked? Any creative technique helpful. Thanks in advance for the insights. Jim Grace "Aglaia" 43' Tradewinds

Bimini top metal

I am getting my Bimini top extended.  I have been looking at 1" Stainless Steel tubing and have a question.  Most suppliers in my area carry only 304 grade stainless..  I can have them order 316 grade stainless.. but.. One supplier tells me I do not want to use 316 grade on a Bimini.. he says it is not as strong as 304 and that I should use 304..

sealing the bilge top

I would just trowel half inch thick cement patching compound with vinyl that you can find in Home Debit and finish the top with an epoxy paint from Rustoleum. It is important to use cement product because it is alkaline and will keep the iron punching from continuing to rust.
