I am getting my Bimini top extended.  I have been looking at 1" Stainless Steel tubing and have a question.  Most suppliers in my area carry only 304 grade stainless..  I can have them order 316 grade stainless.. but..

One supplier tells me I do not want to use 316 grade on a Bimini.. he says it is not as strong as 304 and that I should use 304.. Does that make sense ?

I'd pay a little more and get the 316 stainless steel tubing. The 2% molybdenum content of 316 SS greatly enhances its resistance to corrosion.  304 stainless is not really recommended for marine applications. Yield strength of 316 SS tubing should be equal to or greater than 304 SS tubing.
