The light twin pilots are generally better trained and rated than their single contemporaries - yet they die more often per mile flown. Could it be that sophisticated, often well educated pilots try to fly airplanes where they should set down quickly?

I have seen a number die of hypothermia, while alongside the boat as various rigs try and get them aboard. We have a proven method: first used in the Cal 46, using the dingy hoist motor and radar arch, now using the Davit crane on the Symbol 42. We keep a lifesling at the area of the gate of the aft portion of the sun deck.

Over the next several weeks, the same thing happened six more times; after 2-3 hours of running, vacuum would start to build from near 0 to 1, then 2 then 5 then 10, 15, (in of hg) and after about 20 minutes, the engine would die. It wasn't a hard blockage, because switching off the tank feed causes the vacuum to reach that level in less than a minute.

Hi Alex, Live by the nit, die by the nit. I read your posts, and re-read my Detroit Diesel service manual. What you call a "primary fuel filter", Detroit Diesel calls a "fuel strainer", and they do indeed call for 30 microns in it. For their "secondary", they call it a "fuel filter", and ask that you put a 10 micron element in it.

The issue may not present itself until you die, or until some state decides you haven't paid them income tax, or any other number of ways. Talk with your attorney and get his advice before your widow/family gets to deal with the issue! I don't want to post my little primers about residency again, for fear of boring all the list old timers.

They seem to appear in both the spring and the fall, lasting about three or four weeks before the die off. According to Dr. John Capinera, Professor of entomology at the Univ. of Florida, "they have a longer gestation period than other insects and the eggs laid in April don't hatch till August."

impeller replacement interval revisited

The impellers die slowly, not catastrophically. First a blade cracks, then eventually breaks off. Last spring I replaced two impellers (Jabsco 17936-001). It was five years and about 650 hours. The first was perfect...and I thought .."I just wasted $80".
