Re: T&T: Merc Cruiser water absorb for out board
Fri, Feb 6, 2009 3:31 PM
When a 4 stroke is sick it is not so easy to diagnose and fix as a 2 stroke, Leatherman skills notwithstanding. I forgot to mention one other thing earlier. My Yamaha dealer said that 30% of their repair business was ethanol related...all 4 strokes. The real bottom line is use.

Re: T&T: Rafted up vessels and anchor lights

Anchor lights at the top of masts are good for open roadsteads, not so good in smaller enclosed or crowded anchorages. I choose to mount Pooh's anchor light on top of the radar on the Pilothouse roof (12' off the water) instead of 34' above the water on the masthead.

TWL: RE: Re: Bow thrusters

Admittedly I am doing all the labor . . . and my interior had to come out anyway so those costs for me are not attached to a thruster . . . but $3500 or so just seems excessive for the contents of a thruster. Wiring or hydraulic runs would all be on top of this cost.

It is easier, not as messy, cleans up with paint thinner, can be given some rot resisting properties by adding copper napthinate (or a like compound), but best of all, it allows the fittings to come apart easy, is easy to clean off ,much more fun to apply and although I have not done an indepth evaluation, it is my impression it is cheaper.
