impeller replacement interval revisited
Sun, Dec 26, 2004 4:36 PM
The impellers die slowly, not catastrophically. First a blade cracks, then eventually breaks off. Last spring I replaced two impellers (Jabsco 17936-001). It was five years and about 650 hours. The first was perfect...and I thought .."I just wasted $80".

The laptop just won't die. Tried to use a newer set of Maine charts on CD with it a couple of years ago when we chartered up there and the new charts crashed the program every time. Absolutely no problems prior to that.

People who are thrown into cold water with little warning and who are over about 60 or so, generally die within minutes, and not from drowning. A couple more points of clarification. The bar was not closed, it was restricted.

Who cares if a few hundred coal miners in a distant place die each year. Same thing with manufactured goods for our boats. Many Asian factories have absolutely no work place safety. Who cares if the workers get mangled or poisoned by toxic chemicals during the manufacturing process; as long as we get our consumer goods real cheap!

If the air leak was larger the engine would not start or would die completely at the next startup. The air leak could get worse or it might seal up from vibration. There is no way to know which way it might go. But, I think you can assume that this is what is going on. In any event, it is the most likely scenario.

We are late heading south but holed up in Barnegat waiting for the wind machine to die down. Thanks for the Picture. Never get many shots underway. Don't look too close at my junk deck. We're living aboard with 2 kayaks, 3 bicycles two dingys and more!

Re: T&T: Battery monitor

The product description mentions " a new shunt selection is available to measure currents up to 1000 amps respectively" When the 8 D's die I 'll probably go to golfcart batteries and add a separate main engine start battery (group 31 size) which I will then monitor instead of the genset battery.

Re: T&T: Free - Buoy Reports by SMS to your Cell phone - 93% success

By the way, if you can't spell (BUOY) and have to spell it "bouy" which is not a valid spelling, you will not die, or dye, as even that has been fixed, for those of you who can't yet spell. Don't ask how this problem was overcome...
