I have a 5.5 KW phasor gen set with a Kabota engine.? I recently changed the secondary filter. a new problem has developed, when I first start the engine will start, then lose power and run rough for a few seconds then finally get going and run ok.? It sounds like a little air.? Is there a spot to bleed this by the injectors?

George,
It is hard to be certain, but I would say that you have got some kind of
very small air leak, created when you changed the secondary fuel filter.
When the engine runs, the fuel lift pump overcomes the air leak and
fills the system. When the engine is shut down the vacuum in the fuel
lines pulls in a little air. The injector pump does not have any air so
when you restart, the engine comes up without trouble. But, shortly
after the air in the secondary fuel filter moves to the injector pump
and causes some hesitation.
Meanwhile the lift pump is pulling fuel into replace the air in the
secondary filter, which in effect, self purges. The engine runs fine
until the next start up.
If the air leak was larger the engine would not start or would die
completely at the next startup. The air leak could get worse or it might
seal up from vibration. There is no way to know which way it might go.
But, I think you can assume that this is what is going on. In any event,
it is the most likely scenario.
It may not be happening exactly as I described, depending upon how the
fuel return is plumbed and whether the injector pump is designed to be
self purging.
