thanks for access to Rufous Hummer
Mon, Jan 24, 2011 2:40 AM
This is January and is often the time these hummer stragglers finally give in to the freezing temps so it was expected it would die soon.  As with the disappearance of the Calliope, which I did see, these little buggers are tough but just can't handle the cold temps of the northeast.

Summer Tanager & dying redpolls

If they still die, then it must be a transmitted disease. If not, the niger may be contaminated. more later, Chris Michener Golden Lake Region 26 Coordinator Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas http://www.birdsontario.org/atlas/atlasmain.html Pembroke Area Field Naturalists: http://www.renc.igs.net/~cmichener/pafn.index.html cmichener@renc.igs.net (Chris)

For really heavy grinding I find an air driven die grinder much better. They are in expensive (about $19) run cool and have lots of power. Mine air grinder has colletts for 1/8 and 1/4 bits. Also the air grinder speed is controlable. Only problem is you need a decent compressor and tank.

TWL: Fuel problem solved

I did install a racor vacuum gauge as I report here on the list and it barely rose of the peg...but still the engine would die from air in the injector.

TWL: Securing TV's and VCR's
Sat, Feb 3, 2001 2:06 PM
It was interesting to read that Zeke Anderson on Texas Cookin' had his TV fall and die during his recent voyage, precisely the situation I am trying to avoid. Once, I forgot to move the TV onto the cabin sole before getting underway, and it fell off the entertainment center, but thankfully did not quit working. Just pure, dumb luck!

TWL: Night Vision Electronics

Any one ever use them in a "do or die" situation or are then all bought as toys? Any advice for or against purchasing? I picked up a cheap Gen I unit from Harbor Freight - can't beat $89.00 to try out a fantasy. It is a "Zenit" and seems to work acceptably. Appears to be Russian military surplus (or a knockoff).

Re: TWL: To turbo or not...

But my idea that turbo diesels >had only a little advantage in fuel efficiency was based, among other >things, on the article on diesels on the web site provided by Michael Since this thread does not seem to be able to die a naturally aspirated death. I thought I would throw in another few cents worth.

TWL: fueling

The vents are so small and they are an invitation to bugs to camp/die in to the detriment of fuel intake flow rate. Richard

Re: TWL:list V5 #115 / fresh water problems..

OTOH, the >noisy pump may be telling you that it is about to die. I've learned to do a couple of things that help check the fresh water system on the boat. If I leave the boat for a few days, I leave the water system preasureized, (with the power to the 12Vdc pump off).

Re: TWL: NiCad batteries?
Sat, Dec 1, 2001 6:48 PM
The only beauty of a NiCad is that it will give up to 95% of it's capacity at the rated voltage and then it will die. 4. Nicads will develop a 'Memory'. If you discharge and charge it the same amount day after day it will not deliver it's full capacity much beyond what you are normally do on the daily basis.
