TWL: Securing TV's and VCR's

Thanks to all who responded on the List and privately with suggestions on
securing entertainment devices on board. Ideas ran the gamut from placing
the units in cutouts in the bulkhead to screwing the TV and VCR to shelves.
While all of the ideas have merit, none so far will solve my particular
problem. However, by combining some of the ideas, I may be able to have my
cake and eat it too: the units secured while underway, and freeing up
valuable cabin sole space under some shelves or a swivel unit to build a
desk for the computer. I will have to spend some time staring at the space
available to come up with the best solution. I'll drop a note on the List if
I come up with anything worth reporting.

It was interesting to read that Zeke Anderson on Texas Cookin' had his TV
fall and die during his recent voyage, precisely the situation I am trying
to avoid. Once, I forgot to move the TV onto the cabin sole before getting
underway, and it fell off the entertainment center, but thankfully did not
quit working. Just pure, dumb luck!

Cheers,

John

John,
In our bed room, ok stateroom I mounted a tv as follows: Pur. a bass
boat seat swivel that is bolted to an existing shelf. To this is bolted
a piece of plywood , suitably finished in felt. I drilled 4 partial
holes in the plywood for the feet of the tv to sit. There are eye hooks
on each side of the plywood through which heavy nylon string is attached
and passed over the tv. The reason for the swivel is the tv may be
watched while in bed or dressing. It has been there for over 12 yrs.
Real neat and cheap.
