One of these days someone will post an easy PIC or Atmel-based hack that allows them to be general purpose clock displays. It can't be that hard. But no one has done it yet that I know of.

About 25 years ago, I worked on a system that used the hack of unary encoding small integers in a blinking LED. That was before small LCDs were inexpensive and readily available. It worked. Yes, it's not great.
