While the result is a boat to die for, and remembering that the owner/converter had skills well beyond us mere mortals (he had previously converted a 110 foot tug), perhaps the following quote should serve as a warning, "It was an enormous job." Island Ranger is a spectacular final result.

TWL: Re: Phantom waves

Waves from high speed boats or from commercial tug and freighter traffic bounce back and forth lasting for some time before they die out. Often the traffic causing the wave is long gone. These "phantom" waves are a mystery to boaters unfamiliar with the area. Larry Z

Old sailors don't die, they just get encrusted with fungus and look that way. Regards, Mike Capt. Mike Maurice Wilsonville, Oregon (Portland).

Personal experience is that die-cast interior door latch parts wear out too soon and the chrome pits. Expensive exterior chrome plated brass exterior parts have the brass showing thru the chrome in places after only a few years. Another good company mucked up by greed and Harvard MBAs.

Garbage Disposal

Most of it ends up supporting the increase of algae which, as was stated earlier, then help deplete the oxygen supply in the water when they die and decay. Again, nobody is claiming that garbage from boats is the main source of the problem.

Re: T&T: Fuel issues

The check ball in the head of the filter would lodge itself into the housing somehow and block the flow, causing the genset to die from fuel starvation. I removed the ball check after repeatedly dismantling the filter assembly, and decided that the ball check is more problem than it's worth and left it out.
