Re: What IS a 'commercial' post?
Thu, Oct 15, 1998 8:57 AM
Threads die down only to return again. Besides 98% of the posts miss me completely due to my own situation. DELETE BUTTON!!! Now the 2% that I connect with...PRINT BUTTON!!! That is what makes this list so intriguing. I never know when the next golden nugget will turn up. The list is hardly ever boring, even when a thread is winding down.

But at 5,000 hours, even die-hard diesel guys would choke. I hope Paul pops up with some comments on this thread.

TWL: Albin fuel dip tubes

The engine would start and then die immediately. I knew I was down to about 50 gallons in both tanks but intended to refill after my CG Aux Safety Patrol. We limped back to the marina on one engine and checked out the engine. I was sucking air ! My fuel dip tube ended at the 50 gallon level on the port tank.

Given that this new owner will die before an overhaul is needed should keep the amount down. As with all negotiations, get him to come up with the number first. Bob ________________ Robert Calhoun Smith Jr M/V MARY KATHRYN Hatteras 58 LRC Chesapeake Bay

Reseating stanchion bases: Advice requested
Mon, Nov 22, 2004 1:03 AM
I understand the glassed over problem--one solution is to back out the bolt, then get a Dremel tool, or die grinder with a flexiable shaft and cut/grind off the fiberglass. Probably there was a layer of matt put over the hull to deck joint. Lacking that, you can thicken epoxy with cabasol (silica) to a consistancy which will not run thru the bottom.
