In response to Duck trap question
Thu, Dec 17, 2009 2:20 PM
Occasionally ducks die in the trap and I don't know why. Apparently there are other duck traps around the state. it's just that from the windows of the Audubon building I can see this trap, so I report the findings about the marsh.

[Ontbirds]Rusty Blackbirds at Cranberry--Nov.19
Fri, Nov 18, 2005 7:05 PM
The dieing-down of the cattails on the wetland has revealed more than 15 Muskrat "push-ups", each being cattail pyramid-shaped mounds. They can all be seen from the south path platform. Jim Fairchild called out "3 Rusties" in a tall tree nearby, at 1030am. The Fox Sparrow numbers are falling off-indeed, I saw only one over a 3-hour period today.

TWL: Monel Tanks

Does anybody know about this material . . . should I be able to continue to use these as potable water tanks, or am I going to die of some heavy metal malady. P.S. My boat has another "reserve" tank that holds 170 gallons. You got to love a boat with 170 "reserve" gallons of water!

I'll manage to have the whole lash up looking good and in running order (a not too, too difficult job - sometimes) and die before it can break, thus leaving it as an asset to QUICKLY sell rather than a deficit to whoever survives me. Rich Gano CALYPSO (GB42-295) Homeport Panama City I'd rather be cruisin'

Reply We used what I'm guessing were Gen 1 vintage NVGs for zerolight/starlight amphibious landings when I was aboard USS Mobile. All I can say is that if they've improved any at all they must be like daylight now.
