Re: T&T: A thought for those with masts
Sun, Oct 2, 2011 3:44 PM
You all are way off the mark, living in the 18th cent. Mirabella V has pulled into Charleston for a few days. Her mast is so tall - 292 feet- that she can't go under any bridge in the world. I've never seen anything like it. So, who hauls the crew to the top? No one. It has an elevator, yes elevator that takes a comfortable basket type thing to the top.

Re: how to round/soften top edges

Hi Bob, > I would like to soften the top inner and outer edges on this figure. [Aproximation in words] Looks like a stencil for cookies. The cut cookie would look like a picture frame with rounded corners. > I don't need much. I just wanted to get rid of the edge.

Low's small treatise "Boat Docking; Close Quarters maneuvering for Small Craft" as a starter. I've found that it has some good info and tips for twin and single screw boats. Cost is only about $17.95. Paul, It is my belief that belonging to TWL relates as much to a way of life on the water as to a specific type of hull. As such, comments and discussions about power cats have been enlightening and helpful to me and IMHO should stay in TWL. Stephen

LORAN
Tue, Jul 7, 1998 12:45 AM
DGPS, (Differential GPS) will get you within 3-10 feet. I have mine so that it many times puts me right on. DGPS used to be an expensive option, unless you used it often and your life depended on it. Now, it is becoming so cheap, that it is silly not to get it. Remember, LORAN's days are numbered and even GPS has some political issues brewing, so do a little research before spending a bunch of time and cash. I used to own a LORAN unit, before I donated it to the local artificial reef program. I can probally get my hands on a few used units if anyone is into collecting antiques. The best backup to any navigation system, ask Christopher Columbus!!!! Myles
