Re: Isotemp OCXO question
Sat, Aug 21, 2021 7:14 PM
I suspect this OCXO predates their website, and the internet. I guess I just need to test it and see what it does. I suspect the screw on the top covers a frequency adjustment resister or capacitor or something. Robert On 08/20/2021 02:01 AM, Keelan Lightfoot wrote: > Internet Archive to the rescue!

All chain vs half and half
Tue, Jun 14, 2016 12:35 PM
If you anchor with an all chain rode (we do), you have certainly noticed that in moderate to rough conditions, or when a thunder squall passes over, the chain comes tight and the whole boat is jarred in the waves. So that is why we all use a snubber. I cannot see how you would rig a snubber with a dyneema anchor line?

I think that would be easy enough to do and worth the effort considering the advantages. After writing my last email on this subject, I did a little more thinking about the bungs.

Re: TWL: What did you do today?

I've noticed everyone else's Racor filters have a snazzy little T bar handle on the top to release the lid to replace the filter inside. Mine however (900FG), have a hex nut integral with lid, which means I have to unscrew the whole thing - something that is incredibly difficult to do.

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew - And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

But it's an easy enough thing to raise and lower it off the end of our boom . . . tie it to the top step of our ladder off the transom, and the far end we have a loop that we tie to the boom. Our feeling is that to give the dog a sense of control (and fun!) is far better than trying to raise and lower him OUT of control!

Radar and PC reliability
Tue, Jan 18, 2005 3:27 PM
PC-based radar does have advantages: flexible, versatile, fast, and easy to manipulate. But unlike dedicated radar sets that rarely fail, I have rarely seen PC's go more than a couple days without crashing - especially crash-prone Nobeltec on top of crash-prone MS Windows. Each user has to balance convenience with system stability/reliability.

Fiberglass question

I would use epoxy, but it's not easy to work. No question that Epoxy will adhere better than polyester. Epoxy can be applied to poly, but not poly over epoxy! If any edges are exposed, poly will likely lift.

Bone dry bilge pump
Mon, Jun 4, 2007 12:37 PM
I used a plastic/stainless strainer from a farm supply store (cheap, easy to service) mounted on a stringer. The pump is about two feet above the sump, in a dry, accessable space.
