TWL: Re: Shaft Alignment
Tue, Jan 13, 2004 1:12 PM
Measure top, bottom, and both sides. You want the clearances to be equal all the way around. A target for alignment is to get the differences to be less than .001 inch per inch of coupling diameter. The corrective action depends on what you find when you do the measurement.

Sea chest
Fri, Jul 13, 2007 5:41 PM
All sea cocks , except the air conditioning sea cock, come out of the top cover of the sea chest. Each has a PVC pipe that extends from the top of the chest to the bottom of the chest, almost touching the bottom. The a/c sea cock comes off the side of the chest. The water line is about 6 below the top of the chest.

I thought that you were giving generic advice to all of us about where to locate a discharge pump. I did not think that you were still answering the question about the tank with the pickup tube on the top. My bad. You described where to locate a pump and then said: " An easy mod to do on most boats."

If you have the time and equipment, you should monitor the L1 frequency from a high vantage point with a spectrum analyser to see if either it is a fixed emitter or mobile. If the latter, I would suggest doing as I did, set up a monitoring point at a traffic choke point to see if mobiles drive by that are emitting energy.

RE: T&T: AT&T GSM Service

In summary, pick a "world phone" capable phone, a US vendor that will support international roaming and it all works as advertised. My experience with T-Mobile was good. I suspect that Cingular will do the trick.
