Station 43 Ducks

3/8 Station 43 HAS walk with Roger Preston and Jon Ward. 5 die-hard birders showed up in the rain for a Hartford Audubon Walk at Station 43 in South Windsor this morn. Ducks were the "water" birds of the day!

We get lots of lightning in Florida. One of the local stations had an emergency room physician on TV talking about what to do for someone who is struck (just common sense stuff).

Sextants

I am planning on taking celestial navigation and was looking about for a used sextant to be a backup if both GPS systems die. I've always been interested but never taken the time to learn. From reading Passagemaker, it seems the morning sightings were enough for sound bearings during his trip across the pond.

When my "Marine Trader originals" finally die, and they will, my plan is to craft fuel tank replacements with a low point pick-up regardless of whether ABYC thinks it's a good idea. Meanwhile, I'll just "escrow" a few dollars each month to prepare for the fuel tank replacement adventure...

USCG couldn't tell the politicians that "people will die" so it was a savings to be achieved. Given the shutdown costs it will take a few years to break even - so it's actually more expensive in the short run.
