I cleaned it this winter, and spoke to the factory tech guy, said they should last 10-20 yrs. It is a copper-nickel alloy, like 90/10. I asked about painting, was advised it should be bare, the copper precludes most marine growth, and the most I should do is drop it & clean it by blasting & paint the hull behind the fins.
