I tested the cables by shorting all the top side pins and shorting all the bottom side pins on an edge connector, hooking the completed extenders to that edge connector, and testing the resistance between the top side and bottom sides. That tests all the adjacent wires on the ribbons and the tight clearances.

Walked on top of snow as it stiffend up enough to slowly make my way out to point.  19 - AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, usual GULLS, 6 - COMMON EIDERS ( 5-F, 1-M), 4 - COMMON GOLDENEYE (2-F,2-M), 50 + BRANTS, 9 - CANADA GEESE, RED BREASTED MERGANSERS, lone PURPLE FINCH singing at top of tree at entrance.

Be aware if you use "use" that any variable assignments at the top level will be executed any time you call a function in your file, which can result in huge slow downs if you call functions a lot and have something slow to compute in those top level assignments. Or, for a bit of nostalgia, not to mention a top spot on Hackaday, use Nixie tubes for the readout and NE-2 bulbs for the status icons.
