Oil for Velvet Drive Transmissions
Wed, Jul 20, 2005 1:42 AM
The manual for my 1985 vintage velvet drive transmissions says to use automatic transmission fluid or Mobil HD 30.Is there another oil company's product that is recommended, or that would meet the same (or better) specs as the Mobil product? Bob, If you are interested in experience, here is mine.

Thru-Hulls
Sun, Oct 14, 2018 6:33 PM
If you are working with the "older" all straight threaded thru-hulls, you can convert them to having the last 2-3 threads tapered just by using a tapered pipe die on them, a large enough wrench, and a little bit of muscle. Just make sure to match size and pitch. At least that's what Jill says after having just done so on a recent job.

First pass would be to pull the plastic off of a couple of bad ones and get some pictures of the die. After that, trace them back and see if they are Brand A or Brand B. Next, do the same for a good one (or two) and see if the die trace to the same manufacturer.
