Re: T&T: $100 + a barrel!

Of course on of other side of the coin is he will be left with no options. His boat will only sell if he takes a major beatting. So in all likelly hood he'll either bite the bullet and pay or stay home. Of course the same thing will hit many people even the folks with single screw trawlers.

Survey
Wed, Jan 30, 2008 9:19 PM
The other side of the coin is this: any buyer who relies solely on a surveyor and doesn't do any homework themselves is left open for potentially big disappointments. When I bought my current old Hatteras nine years ago I had an engine mechanic come along for a WOT ride....and was glad I did. He detected some engine issues I would not have.

Re: T&T: More on ABYC

Yes, ABYC can only legally 'recommend", but the other side of that coin is that when your insurance company wants a survey before they will continue your coverage, and the surveyor will use the ABYC recommendations as the basis for his survey, those 'recommendations' just became mandatory on you if you want to keep your insurance in force.

Re: [time-nuts] 10 MHz phase detector: 4046 or separate XOR (74HCT1G86)?

Google James Miller 10 MHz GPS. Very similar ckts are by Talbot and Bozic. The basic idea is to divide the 10 MHz to 10 KHz and then use a phase detector. All will work well. It comes down to personal choice. If you’re into complexity the Brooks Shera solution will make you absolutely joyful.
