We used one layer on the sides and two layers on the top. I fastened it in place with contact cement and screws with fender washers ( my substrate was wood) I then covered the washers and any seams with the matching tape that is included with the product. It is easy to clean, light reflecting, and not expensive in the grand scheme of things.
