It also was designed in an era of “top down” timing. That is a very different approach than the “bottom up” timing of the over the air codes on CDMA or some (but not all) advanced TDMA systems.

Looks like a thick coin with battery, ram and RTC built in. Even used dozens of them map temperature distribution in a aircraft fuel tank. Also available as a 1-wire device. For precision I've used Pico Technology PT105 4 channel PRD interfaces. Robert G8RPI.
