The wood will die at each of the "noble" fittings, i.e. at each spot where you want the wood to be extra strong... Where the wooden structure holds the struts, the stuffing box, the rudder bearings, etc. the wood will turn to mush! On a wood boat, each of the underwater metals should have its own separate zinc for protection.

When you die you can't take your money with you but maybe you can take your cruising memories ... 2. 1% Slip 1% Insurance 1% Mantainance 2% Loss of value (only if you buy a good "reseller") 5% Income, you don't get (If you use your money; if you use your bank it's more expensive) -> 10 % from list-price every year.

You will pay taxes, and you will die, but you will NOT ever pay an email tax in the United States. Best regards, John Norton

TWL: Overboard.
Tue, Nov 6, 2001 8:19 PM
.> You're right Arild, but unless you have a boarding step of some kind at around waterlevel, chances are you'll drown or die of exhaustion trying to climb the side of the boat. It can even be hard to get on to a boarding platform from the water!!!! Cheers Glenn Williams "Stirling" Universal 36 Port Phillip, Australia.

TWL: CO2 Bottle/Air Horn
Wed, Jun 5, 2002 2:30 PM
I replaced the 20 year old single that sounded more like a large dieing mammel than a horn. I used the existing CO2 bottle/regulator system and it works great. I removed the tank and had it checked and refilled at a welding supply store. It will be interesting to see how long one bottle will last. I have the regulator set at about 60 psi.

Re: T&T: Engine Life of a diesel engine
Sun, Jul 25, 2004 10:37 PM
Most marine diesels in pleasure vessels die from abuse or neglect, not wearing out. Probably the most common causes of death are overheating and salt water intrusion into the engine through the exhaust system.

Onan Mounts
Sun, Oct 24, 2004 7:26 PM
He is at a loss to explain how they could die in 2000 hours. I thought that the rubber material might have decayed in 20 years. Have no idea, yet, what replacements cost. At the generator end, two mounts are close together in the center while on the end with the engine they are at the corners. Any experience with this problem/task?
