Re: [time-nuts] Conducting Bench Top Material

The black foam is history (we all have ICs with corroded leads in the garage where the black foam turns to goo). Here at JPl, we don't use the pink bags/peanuts/stuff at all, because apparently, the coating can flake or rub off. We use plastic that has a very thin metalized layer, and I think that's pretty much industry standard now.

See: http://www.karlquist.com/FCS95.pdf Or look at the 1995 FCS proceedings. Compare, for example, the HP5087, a so-so design, to the output amplifier design in the 5071A cesium, as documented in my FCS paper in 1992. Huge difference in specs. The 5071A has 120 dB isolation between outputs.

Our 'lit'l yacht' passagemaker has bimini top, VHF, GPS, cell phone, etc. -- everything but radar and a head. We are learning quickly how long it takes to get anywhere at 6-8 knots, although "lit'l yacht" tools along nicely at 14 knots when the Bay and Delta permit it (not often) with its Evinrude 9.9.

Epoxy the edge all around the top, then use a rounding bit in your router to make everything smooth and round before glassing over the edge foam.
