HP Cesium Standards in the International Atomic Time Scale, the legend of Felix Lazarus, and the "top cover effect".

I think he is the one that discovered the "top cover effect". If you removed the top sheet metal cover from the instrument, the offset would shift by a part in 10 to the 12th or so. If you put the cover on, and changed how tight the screws were tightened, it would shift differently. I recall he wanted us to fix this.

I was also under the impression that they die during cold snaps that reach 40 d. That's regrettable, because I heard a rumor that they are very tasty barbecued. Do they taste like chicken? Anybody have a recipe to share?

winter wrens

Though long-distance migration has plenty of hazards, Winter Wrens and the other half-hardy species are much more susceptible to winter die-off than the neotropical species that leave the hemisphere entirely. Glenn Williams Mystic, CT

Dead and Dying
Thu, Feb 7, 2002 12:00 PM
Every winter birds die at and near my feeders. Not just Redpolls, but Chickadees, White-breaasted Nuthatches, Hairies and Downies, Evening Grosbeaks, etc. As a long time bird bander I found out that small birds have very short lives. At times this wwinter I've had 200 Redpolls and some have died - including a Greenland!

They will not die! Initial smoking is probably from malfunctioning glo plug(s). The smoke is from too much unburned fuel at startup which glo plugs help minimize. So, logically, you have not problem after she warms up. Bob ________________ R C Smith Jr M/V MARY KATHRYN Hatteras 58 LRC Currently lying Annapolis

Being burned is very serious--if you live the rehab is prolonged and painful, if you die it is often painful and there is a lot of suffering. Bob Austin

Sounds like an air leak in the fuel system to me.

MaxSea, BSB4 charts & Mac
Mon, Oct 11, 2004 1:28 PM
I hope I am not in an upgrade or DIE situation! I am heading to the west coast of FL for the winter and ordered latest raster CD charts. My faithful old (2001) version of MaxSea (for Macintosh) will not read BSB4 charts, which, as far as I can see, is the only version Maptech is shipping. Can any MaxSea users on Macs help me out?
