Re: [time-nuts] GPS Locked and Unlocked Performance Comparison

For these tests I used a TSC 5120A; a 3 meter mil-spec RG58C cable to the UUT; the reference comes into the lab from another room over Andrew heliax FSJ1-50A. I get the same performance with and without 10 dB pads, and with or without RF isolators.

From personal experience I know that the Security Control of Air Traffic and Navigation Aids (SCATANA) plan has been in existence for over 30 years http://www.faa.gov/ATpubs/MIL/Ch6/mil0604.html http://kauko.hallikainen.org/FCC/FccRules/1998/87/395/ While these examples are primarily aviation related, the same thing exists for marine navigation aids and

Len wanted to use a mil spec tantalum for reliability, but the cost was astonomical for the large capacitance we needed. We talked him into using a really good aluminum one. Rick Karlquist

Re: [time-nuts] BNC question

The ARCNET spec states: "The MIC for use with coaxial cable is a conventional BNC per MIL-STD-348A." If you look at that spec, it's for 50 Ohm connectors. 75 Ohm ones don't have the insulator around the center socket. Since ARCNET only ran at 2.5 MHz, the mismatch apparently didn't matter.

It will be expensive I suspect as its mil. Or just find some pins stick them in with wires for temp. If the cover can be removed potentially much more insight can be gained. Given at this point they are worthless. No harm or foul in diving in. Potentially you can at least find ground on the pins.
