TWL: The big deck and tanks project continued
Sat, Oct 21, 2000 1:02 AM
On their recommendation we ordered stainless steel tanks with all openings in the top. No drain sump, no sight glass. Just fuel gauge sender, filler pipe, vent and dip tube from the top for fuel outlet. I will lose the ability to balance the tanks by keeping both valves open.

I often put a "T" on the top of the through hull, so I can "Rod" the thru hull by removing the cap in the top of the "T", the engine intake goes off the right angle.

That way, if your flange connection does leak, the leak is at the top of the tank and not at the bottom. I have installed several of the new plastic tanks and this is how the "big boys" do it. All flange/connections are done through the top of the tank. Brent Hodges M/V Frienship 43 Albin Sundeck Ardmore, Ok / Seabrook, Tx.

Shut of the pet cocks to the engine and refill the filter from the top, to the top. That should keep fuel in the lines to the engine.
