It's obvious enough that high levels of crystal current are bad for long-term stability and aging, but it's not as easy to see why high crystal current in itself should rule out a good broadband noise floor.

Re: [time-nuts] GPS usable for weather forecasting?

They could not pull the almanac data off of it, but the sat's orbital parameters are relatively easy to come up with. If I remember correctly they came up with some pretty impressive timing numbers. The paper didn't mention any navigation results (gee… I wonder why…).

Re: [time-nuts] Space mission comes to an end becuase of a "computer time tagging" problem

If you do that early in the mission, the handling the shift is relatively easy as C/N ratios is favorable. Cheers, Magnus

Re: [time-nuts] Time stamping with a PICPET

Four at once was easy. Modern CPUs are MUCH more complex and will even do speculative executions. and brach prediction which means they need a way to "back up", and toss out results from wrong predictions. It is impossible to know the timing in advance. I think hyper threading (hardware level multitasking) adds even one more layer.

Re: [time-nuts] Beaglebone NTP server

Hi The quick / dirty / easy way for any of the NTP stuff with a GPSDO is to simply run the PPS in. PPS into serial is one way, pps into a GPIO is another way. I think we all can list the top 10 areas off the top of our head, but this would be biased by our personal experience so no two lists would be identical. It would be good to have an objective measure without bias for a variety of reasons too long go into now. What we really don’t know is where people don’t go birding.

It is a blessing or something that you are so willing to share all your vast lifetimes of experience with us Plebes. Please keep your all too frequent emails flying as I need the entertainment. It is cold and dark here this time of year. Perhaps after you invent cold fusion that will be eliminated. Don't like it do you?
