Re: [time-nuts] Oncore battery backup (answer to question)
Wed, Apr 6, 2011 8:53 PM
Why add all that complexity to an otherwise simple application. If you add up the cost of the CAP and all the parts to charge it and protect the load, I think that would exceed the cost of the battery. If your whole existence relies on a single back-up strategy to save your butt, then you should not be there in the first place.

They have the large shrinkwrap available as well, so it would be easy to build a complete pack on your bench. Tabbed cells, a hot glue gun, shrinkwrap, and you're set to go for about $30. David dgminala at mediacombb dot net

After the storm ...
Tue, Jun 9, 2009 5:43 PM
It poured here all morning, as I assume it did all over the state, complete with continual rolls of thunder. That kept yard activity to a minimum. Once the rain stopped it was obvious the birds were hungry, particularly the woodpeckers and hummers.

Deck rot, quick fix doesn't work !
Sat, Aug 19, 2006 7:13 PM
After getting into the problem, it was easy to tell where he had applied it, I would find a small area of plastisized wood that was the original rot he was trying to fix and all around it would be much more rot, spreading to adjacent structures. He must have used a barrel of the stuff, and to no avail, it still rotted.

And we routinely see seagulls and other waterbirds on the display and they have no metal on them at all. Same thing with kayaks although there may be a bit of metal on them in the form of hardware. If the water is at all choppy, however, these targets pretty much disappear or become so intermittent they are easy to overlook.

Re: [time-nuts] Strange E3610A PSU - Old revision
Thu, Jun 14, 2012 3:16 PM
I have already been recommended a 2'nd cleanup of the PCB , and after a 2'nd washdown with IPA , and a top-side resolder of all the resistors in the PSU-Meter voltage divider section. The PSU volt meter is actually stable , and is following the PSU-Output , quite nicely. I verified by having my 34401A on the PSU-Output.

All of that is pretty easy to blow holes in as far as a real / normally operating system is concerned. I *think* it's pretty close in the limit case though. If it is close, then the part (yes I bought one to) might improve things by 1 db. It also might degrade things by 4 db under the worst case conditions where it likely matters.
