In the Chesapeake Bay area around Annapolis I have applied Belzona 1341 Supermetalglide to the shafts, struts, props and trim tabs on my Post-46 Sportfisherman with very good results. The props bite better and I noticed a slight (about 6%) increase in speed.

TWL: RE: Free fall winches

My Ideal Windlass has both reversing and free-fall capability. My experience is the electrical reversing is plenty fast enough for my needs and the free fall would be a lot more likely to jump the gypsy unless you managed it carefully. I prefer to operate everything from the bridge being a single hander...

While the feature set is essentially the same, I notice that stability is substantially improved. I ran for the whole summer without a single crash. Also, the new charts (which were free with the upgrade) seem to be excellent, at least for my cruising area (Pacific NW).

There are programs available to use these maps that are free of charge. I used one called 'Sea Clear' for a couple of years and was pretty happy with it. Of course, they don't have all the bells and whistles that you get w/ Navigator, The Capn' and Fugawi, but it served its purpose well.
