Re: T&T: Verizon phones...

It means needing an air card with another mobile plan, monthly fees, etc. These are all considerations when cruising. Looking at Verizon for a new smartphone user, I'd look at the Treo 700p ($150) and 755p ($250) but only if you need one this week.

Re: T&T: Cell Phone Amps

Well I have one too, would an amplifier be useful where T-Mobile (our carrier) has a weak signal and defers to Rogers in Canada even though we have set the preferred network as T-Mobile? I suppose an amplifier boost up all signals, just hoping that there would be enough T-Mobile signal for the phone to use.

In my experience that has never happened and we have tied up >in some, shall we say challenging places.....In Mobile , Al. during a >horrible set of thunderstorms we did tie to a strange quay where there >were, of all things, only mooring RINGS. We ran the lines thru the rings >and back to the boat, still using the eyes but set on the boat cleats.

Even if that were not the case I think that in all but exceptional circumstances it is better to let nature take its course however sad that may seem (note that it is normal for most young birds to die in their first year). That said I'm probably just a cold hearted cynic (ok, the " probably" is misleading).

This is why GPS timing receivers work (almost as well) on top of your car as on top of your house." I don't get that. What's the purpose of doing a survey when you move your antenna if this the case?
