Re: [time-nuts] Difference in antennas
Thu, Nov 21, 2019 7:29 PM
One issue in particular is how > to handle a modern GPS that expects modest antenna gain when it's > plugged into a system with a 50dB gain antenna at the top. That one is easy to solve with either a too long / too low quality cable. :-) Otherwise you may just have to add a 20..30dB damping plug on the receiver side.

I have a high wire from the top of the house to a tree, which works on a pulley and ratchet, easy to raise and lower and as long as I raise it high enough, the bears cannot reach the three or four feeders having from it.  I'll send you a photo.

Re: T&T: Wanted: Travelogue web site template
Sun, Apr 3, 2005 4:17 PM
I can do a website from scratch but I believe that there must be some good templates out there. I copied a few sites from those out there on the web but modifying them daily is a manual process. Commercial websites are available for many purposes and use sophisticated techniques but I have not found one for travel Any help is appreciated.

Re: T&T: docking without midships walkway
Tue, Nov 3, 2009 2:58 PM
Not all docks are set up to make the job easy and sometimes it is required of the crew to calmly, but in a very nimble manner, run from one end of the boat to the other. Prempively situating the necessary lines is a good idea, but it does not take the place of being able to work the boat without obstacles.

Being able to set this position makes it extremely easy to move the screw/hole or whatever to location where it is needed. Depending on where the object is to go, a different “position” may be the most easy to deal with. Screws, holes, nut traps are all “positioned” so the translations necessary to move them where needed are all identical.

Re: [time-nuts] homebrew maser

If the size of the cavity is a problem with the H maser, it would be quite easy to load the cavity with some high \epsilon material and thus shrinking it (as it is done with all modern H masers i've read about) IMHO, the "right" way to build a maser would be first to build the cavity and the electronics.
