Amongst them was the fact that, on average, THREE PEOPLE A YEAR DIE FROM TESTING 9 VOLT BATTERIES ON THEIR TONGUES IN THE UK. I recently joined St John Ambulance as a volunteer and I would much rather not have to use my CPR skills on a fellow Time Nut. Please always think safety first.

Practically speaking 20kRad is a fairly decent dose (it's a typical design requirement for a trip to Mars or for GEO).. you pick up about a kRad/year In LEO it's a lot lower (otherwise astronauts in ISS would die). Around Jupiter it's a lot higher (typical design requirements for Europa missions and such are 1 MRad)

The next issue might be that they only have them in die form. The issue after that probably is that you really want the version 3 (or 9) chips that actually work with all the modulation schemes. I’ve been down the road with a number of similar chips that took *many* rev’s before they really did what they were intended to do.

Hi Tearing the physics package apart and putting it back together again can be a bit of a hassle on the small Rb’s … Bob > On Nov 21, 2014, at 2:00 PM, paul swed wrote: > > Bob > Absolutely lots of ways to die. Such as bad caps, bad variable cap, > resistors that are cooked.....

We changed the die coat on the ASIC to an opaque version soon after that … Light does indeed interact with semiconductors. It happens even on circuits that you would not *think* are photo sensitive. Physics is nasty that way ….
