Re: T&T: Water Tank Gauge

To stop the "squirting" at the open top of the tube when filling (or heeling dramatically, in the case of a sail boat - hopefully not a trawler), simply install a ball valve somewhere in the line where it's easy to reach and shut it when you aren't observing the water level!

Masts
Sat, Oct 1, 2011 4:31 PM
The doctor said 'we'd needed to check the top of the mast. He cranked me up in the bosuns chair. The top of the mast was rotten from a poor seal of the main sheet sheave shaft. The sheave that was used to hoist me up was just barely vertical. I hollared for the doc to let me down real easy. There was no response or reply.

Re: T&T: fuel tank cleaning costs (long)

Nordhavn is one of the few builders with fiberglass fuel tanks, each with a "man-sized" access at the top which allows someone to get into the tank and clean it. All baffles are removable, so it's easy to get to the corners of the tanks and easy to see when the tank is truly clean.

Reply We used what I'm guessing were Gen 1 vintage NVGs for zerolight/starlight amphibious landings when I was aboard USS Mobile. All I can say is that if they've improved any at all they must be like daylight now.

Re: [time-nuts] Linear voltage regulator hints...
Tue, Dec 9, 2014 4:57 PM
Of course it is difficult to provide a good reference and pass transistor on the same die, but it was worth asking. Bert, The thought of temp control of the regulators crossed my mind. Not planning on going there unless I need to. But it was a thought, maybe if all else fails... Bob, > There are more modern parts with lower close in noise.

10/26 Birds

Surprisingly they seem to all be all Canada Geese except for the Cackling Geese that I have previously reported. Today I found both of them, one at Macenzie Reservoir and one in the Cheshire Industrial Park. I also wandered down to Newtown to see what Geese were around.
